Poland

Poland has undergone significant changes throughout its history and recent, primarily economic, changes under the 'shock therapy' doctrine have had a dramatic impact.
Poland is a country that, rather like a litmus paper, is displaying the effects of neo-liberalist economic policy on a previously communist system in almost laboratory conditions.

In order to fully understand these effects, it is important to pull back from subjective allegiances and to ask the question, "is this change good?"

Notes from the Edge of the East follows Karl Naylor, a British teacher living in Krakow, as he shows why he feels the identity of Krakow is being eroded by property development and irresponsible tourism. The catch is that Karl isn't Polish and Karl has other outside factors that affect his ability to live comfortably in a country negotiating change.
